Tooth decay in toddlers is a common thing that most of us come across. In order to prevent tooth decay of your child's baby teeth, you need to take care of teeth. Even though it may fall out, then also you need to take care of it, since it helps them to chew the food, speak properly etc. Tooth decay occurs in toddlers as bacteria within the mouth begins to eat away the primary teeth. The main cause of the tooth decay in toddlers is inadequate dental care, not brushing the teeth, unhealthy eating habits etc.

  • Don't let the child go to bed with a bottle of juice or other sugary liquid diets.
  • Brush and floss child's teeth daily.
  • Acidic foods such as citrus fruits, sugary foods make the enamel of your child's teeth weaken and make the teeth susceptible to cavities.
  • Don't use toothpaste having fluoride.
  • Avoid sugary food items.

Treatment For Tooth Decay In Toddlers.

  • Early symptoms of tooth decay in toddlers can be viewed as white spots appear on the tooth surface. During this stage, fluoride treatment can be done.
  • Change the baby's diet by limiting acidic foods, juices etc. Use water, milk etc as a substitute for juices.
  • If decay is spotted at advanced or later stages with brown or black spots then approach a dentist for the treatments.
  • Sometimes the dentist may use fillings to correct smaller cavities.
