Is fruit juice good for children

The new report published in AAP Journal on “Is fruit juice good for children?” is a wake-up call for all mothers. The report says not to give fruit juices until the age of one year. The report also gives recommended intake levels of fruit juices for children of age group one and above.

The report states that when a baby is given fruit juice they are being denied of the breast milk or formula feed which they are likely to have at that point of time otherwise. This is taking away the goodness offered by milk and replacing it with pure juice which is not rich in fibre content or anything essential required for the baby’s growth.

Giving juice once in a while for children under one year is considered beneficial in terms of digestion. It must be heavily diluted. And on a positive note it helps to introduce a new taste to your baby’s senses. It allows baby to feel different food texture and taste.
